I spent a fair amount of time investigating Odoo. I found it to be a solid product with many great features. It is also one of the most flexible systems out there. However, I also found that it isn’t very robust in the manufacturing world. I think this product is best suited for distribution or retailers.

ERP seems to have been the biggest boondoggle snipe hunt since the 90's. Different actors, different marketing, same result. But look it's in the cloud! Expensive useless solutions in the cloud with 3 year contracts are called a 'money sink'. And since all these mba's can't remember their 'sunk cost' lesson, it keeps an entire smoke and mirrors code monkey industrial complex vibrant and alive. I love this guy tho. Make hay while the ERP sun still shines. I'd love to see a confirmed citation case study where an implementation completed and the actual realized value derived compared to the resource value input. I'm not a negative nelly - I bet there is a ton of value that could be unlocked. The problem is always the people, not the technology.

thank you for your video. Its good to have an independent review of a software. I am in the aviation business as a consultant and IFS cloud was selected as the new ERP system where I am now. You were spot on regarding the good and the bad. Aviation version still needs a lot of work if they are to win in this market.

The ERP my company chose to use is still halfway working after 4+ years and it seems like every week there is more testing for issues…

Workday payroll sucks. ADP is much better.

I still wonder how can some of the Top MNC companies still blabber about being the best in technologies but they still are in the digitization stage. Using paper work a lot even though they are using computer and many digital platforms for internal purposes. Not sure why they fail in their own processes

Hi Eric, thanks a lot for the content you're putting, very useful and helpful! Quick question on the future state and the requirements of TO BE. You've mentioned that first we should define our AS IS, to understand the current situation and opportunities. From there we should then define TO BE processes, which would be the backbone of the requirements. The part that I find difficulty is how the TO BE processes translates into formal requirements and how detailed those requirements should be? As by the time we are mapping the TO BE state we are not yet aware of the technological solution that the ERP brings, thus we don't know exactly how the process can work. And then if we don't describe the details, how can we use it as a formal requirement? Won't it be too general to use as a requirement document? Really tricky! Would appreciate any tip on this one. Thanks!

BTW - one additional use-case you might consider for CPQ is in the typical sales process requiring the sale of solution comprising of products as well as services. This implies a deal/opportunity would target a combination of product lines (physical products as well a service products) that are specific to the customer situation, and a Sales person uses pricebooks, product lines, product fulfillment schedules, revenue recognition schedules, and generate a quote. This is more common place in service and high companies these days where CPQ is used along with CRM systems like Salesforce. CPQ process simply enables more propensity of sale as it involves customer in the back-n-forth quote evaluation process and tangible pricing benefits.

One of the key factor for project success is who drives project ? If SI drives project, its bound to have many unpleasant surprises. If process is standardized one BU, extension to another BU is not simple if another BU operates under different region, different vendors/ stakeholders.

Microsoft number 1 really? In ERP world for the past 25 years and it’s always SAP, PeopleSoft(Now Oracle), Oracle and Workday has market share and rest are small players. Although PeopleSoft is slowing down but still has large customer base and mostly will migrate to SAP/Oracle/Workday in due course. My 2 cents
